Matt Gewolb is a founding partner of Beacon Public Affairs, a full-service public affairs consulting firm based in Atlanta, Georgia, where he oversees political strategy and public policy development. He is the previous Chief Executive Officer of the LLJ Media Company, where he oversaw a diverse portfolio of corporate affiliates including a boutique record label and a marketing consulting firm.
Mr. Gewolb is also Chief of Staff for the Georgia Senate Democratic Leader, serving as a strategist and advisor to the Democratic Leader and the Georgia Democratic Legislative Caucus in a host of areas involving communications, public policy, and political strategy.
Outside of the Capitol, Mr. Gewolb serves as Communications Director for Scott Holcomb's campaign for Georgia Secretary of State. He is responsible for overseeing all campaign communications strategy and is also a key adviser on politics and policy.
Before settling in Georgia, Mr. Gewolb served in the office of United State Senator Edward Kennedy as a Senate Fellow. Working primarily on domestic policy and communications, he spent much of his time dealing with legislation relating to healthcare, education, and labor. He also worked on matters relating to judicial confirmation, including President George W. Bush's nomination of John Roberts to serve on the United State Supreme Court.
Mr. Gewolb is also a veteran campaign strategist. His experience includes: field and communications work in critical battleground states with United State Senator John Kerry's Presidential campaign in 2004; managing Marty Marshak's 2004 New York State Senate bid; serving as a political strategist and communications consultant for a host of New York State legislative and judicial races in 2002 under the auspices of the Nassau County Democratic Committee; and managing Wayne Wink's successful re-election to his Council Seat in North Hempstead, New York. Mr. Gewolb has also served as a consultant in a number of other high-profile federal and state races, consulting primarily on political and communications strategy.
Mr. Gewolb currently serves as a Nassau County Democratic Party Committeeman in New York, an elected post that he has held since 2002.
Mr. Gewolb has also been active in public policy outside of the legislative arena. He has been a longtime organizational and policy analyst with the not-for-profit environmental advocacy organization Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington in New York, named the region's most effective environmental organization by The New York Times.
Mr. Gewolb writes frequently about politics and public affairs and his writing has appeared in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as well as a number of other newspapers and journals in Georgia, New York, and elsewhere. He is currently working on a book regarding the U.S. Supreme Court Voting Rights Act case Georgia v. Aschcroft to be entitled Georgia v. Ashcroft: Race, Power, Politics and the Case that Changed the Way America Votes.
Mr. Gewolb holds his B.S. in Public Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University.
